Alley Pond Park is a little known park to most Mountain Bikers in the New York area. When I told two of my friends, Aaron Kovics and David Nazairo, that I was going to publish the location of the park, I was told, "No, don't do that, then everyone will know about it." Well, sorry boys, it's too good to keep it a secret.

Alley Pond Park has at least three different trails that loop and cross each other with hard pack and asphalt. The hard pack is mostly a combination of V-shaped fast rapid descents with matching steep hard climbs. If you don't fly down the descent you won't make it up the other side. It's almost like riding through moon craters. A word of caution, in the summer the craters sometime return the park back to its name sake, ponds, so look before you leap off the edge. One lap on the hard pack can be done in less then 45 minutes.

The asphalt parts of the trail are used to connect the dried crater like ponds or can be ridden by themselves for the longer endurance climbs.

If you check out Alley Pond Park and enjoy the trail please remember that we all need to lend a hand with trail Maintenance. So volunteer a little of your time to help keep this a great place to ride and at the same time you will get a chance leave to a positive mark on the trail. To get to Alley Pond Park, take the LIE East to exit 29 (Springfield Blvd.). At light make a right on to Springfield Blvd., drive on Springfield Blvd., till you see the flashing yellow light. At the flashing yellow light you'll see the park on the right.
