Now that my Darling daughter Samantha is a teenager, I need to come up with some new ideas for mother/daughter activities. We still enjoy spending quality time together but many of our past activities are beginning to seem ‘lame’ to her. For instance, it has been ages since we had a tea party. I suggested it a couple weekends ago when she was not feeling well. The idea didn’t appeal to her at all. She has taken an interest in ‘gourmet’ cooking lately. She is quite creative and prepares some delicious dishes. This has been a great help to me when it comes to cooking dinner for the family. I allow her to use the good or fancy dishes (as she calls them) and she helps prepare a meal as well as set the table. Just the other night she made a terrific salad to go with the pork chops and potatoes I prepared. We had cool aid served with a frozen strawberry in wine glasses. Unfortunately, baby brother kept blowing out the candle in the center of the table. He must have wondered whose birthday it was. She also came up with a girl’s day out idea. In order to save money I had to modify her schedule. In place of the mall and lunch at a restaurant, we went to the library and had a picnic in the park. I recently read a great article about how a mother, Wanda Vergara-Yates and her daughter transformed their kitchen into a cozy café setting. The article titled “The Rosebud Café” can be found at www.themestream.com/articles/129438 . I think one of these evenings when Samantha’s not feeling to grown up I’m going to suggest something similar because I sure miss our tea parties. Go To Page: 1
