I'm Turning Into My Mom

I think I’m turning into my Mother! That ‘s not really a bad thing; My Mom is a wonderful person. It is just such a surprise to look in the mirror and see more and more of my mother ‘s face looking back at me each day; not to mention hearing her different sayings and expressions coming out of my mouth. I tried rebelling by wearing more make-up, different cloths and even some drastic hairstyles. None of it seemed to help.

A few weeks ago, I was out with my husband shopping for a new purse. One that didn’t resemble a diaper bag yet could hold just as many items. My husband held up a purse and asked, ”How about this one?” It was a duplicate of one my Mother has. Without considering my surroundings I blurted out,”It is bad enough I’m wearing my mother’s underwear, I refuse to carry her purse!” I sure was embarrassed when I heard snickering from the next aisle over.

I should clarify my comment. I am not literally wearing my mom’s underwear. Once I out grew days of the week panties, I wore bikinis or hip huggers. However, shortly after giving birth to Samantha, I found it necessary to start wearing briefs. I won’t mention the body slimming type under garments I now find necessary, I’m sure you get the idea.

I guess you just can’t fight the inevitable. As I said, my Mom is a wonderful person. So what if she is a little winkled and her hair is graying (faster than mine). She is well liked in her community and is very content in her body. I do recall telling her many years ago,”When I grow up Mom I want to be just like you”. I have decided to quit fighting and let nature run it’s course. I only hope I can grow to be as confident in my body and life as my Mom seems to be in hers. I wonder if that nice purse is still on sale. Better yet, I wonder if my Mom is still using hers.
