It's that time again. The costumes. The junk. The schlepping around with those bedecked munchkins, up stairs, down alleys, through yards, hauling the goods for your little ghosts and ghouls.
My daughter is going to be Cinderella. This is because I took her to Disneyworld in May and bought her this UNBELIEVABLY (expensive) beautiful dress, full length, princess blue. Later I bought her the matching "slippers" that she can never REALLY walk in (but she sure will try!). Of course, then she had to have the elbow length white gloves. Now she wants a wand and a tiara. Cinderella NEVER used a wand. She was no friggin' fairy. She WAS a princess, USED to be a scullery maid. I won't get the tiara. Enough is enough, already! All the effort- not to mention the MONEY - and she won't be able to wear it next year. This was the deal: you get the dress, but you MUST, and I mean MUST be Cinderella for Halloween. Not Pokemon. Not Spiderman. Not Barbie or Brittany Spears. Cinder-friggin-rella. So, after my daughter's school party, during which time she will chow down more sugar than I care to think about, I will pick her up and wisk her away - like prince charming did with Cinderella - to ANOTHER party. And more junk. And some more. Then, off to the houses all down the street, knocking at doors and begging for treats. My daughter is beaming at the prospect. Her pearly whites glistening in that lovely mouth. Let's hope all that junk doesn't ruin that wonderful smile. The smile of an elated five year old.
