As we partake of the sacrament each week we also renew our commitment to keep the commandments. We are not only required to keep the familiar Ten Commandments, but to obey all the words that come from the mouth of God. We, as members of the Church, believe that we have a living prophet who is the mouthpiece of the Lord. When he speaks, as moved upon by the Holy Ghost, he speaks as if it were the Lord himself. Therefore, we believe that we must follow the prophet in all of his counsel. The natural outcome of keeping the commandments is peace and joy. We also enjoy blessings as a result of keeping the commandments.
It is a blessing to be able to partake of the sacrament each week and take that time to evaluate our own personal progress. The Lord will not be mocked and He intends that we live up to all the covenants we make. The sacrament enables us to make sure our lives are in order and if not, to rededicate ourselves to living the gospel.
