Perfecting The Saints

One of the main focuses of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to perfect the members of the Church and prepare each member to receive exaltation.

We believe that all who have been born on earth will be resurrected and receive an immortal body. This is a free gift to all, without condition, made possible by the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This is called salvation from physical death. No matter what choices we make in this life or what path we choose to follow we will all be raised to immortality.

We believe, as members of the Church, that we may receive salvation from spiritual death. This salvation, however, is very conditional and depends upon the choices we individually make, as well as our acceptance of the Savior and His plan. We are held accountable only for our own choices, but we will be held responsible for each and every choice. Since we are all mortals, we will make wrong decisions. The grace of the Savior provides an opportunity for us, if repentant, to be forgiven for our sins and bad choices. His atonement makes it possible for each one of us to be completely forgiven, based on our individual repentance, and be able to live with our Father again.

Teachings from the Book of Mormon, as well as latter-day revelation, make it clear that we must each, individually, choose to follow the path back to our Father in Heaven. When we make mistakes, we must repent. The Church has been organized in such a way as to help each of us attain the goal of exaltation.

The various organizations assist members in perfecting their own lives and seeking to help others perfect theirs. The Relief Society is dedicated to helping the sisters in the ward learn to live the gospel and enjoy its blessings more fully. Women meet together each week to participate in a lesson and learn more about the gospel. Once each month the sisters assemble for a homemaking lesson and learn valuable life skills. Ladies in the ward also participate in Visiting Teaching, which requires them to contact certain sisters each month to present a short message and assist with any special needs.

The men also meet together each week for a lesson and discussion to help implement the teachings of the Savior. They are organized into pairs that visit designated families in the ward each month. A successful Home Teaching program is one in which all the families have been visited in the ward during every month.
