Are Mormons Christians?

After both plans were presented, we each made our own decision. Those of us who followed Jesus inherited mortality and those who followed Lucifer, or Satan, were cast out of heaven. Satan took a full third of our spirit brothers and sisters and left. These spirits have been denied the opportunity to receive a body because of their disobedience. It is these spirits who continually try to inhabit others bodies. When someone is said to be possessed by an evil spirit, it is one of these spirits. Satan wishes misery and sorrow for all of us because he wants any and all of us to be like him. "Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given unto them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself." (2 Nephi 2:27)

As we now tarry in our mortal tabernacles, we are enjoying free agency, or the freedom to choose for ourselves, the path we will follow. Jesus also lived upon this earth and was crucified for each one of us. It was all part of the plan that Adam and Eve, after being placed in the Garden of Eden, would transgress the law given to them and a Redeemer would be sent to redeem us from our sins and transgressions. This plan was laid out before the foundation of the world. (See Alma 12:25)

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we absolutely believe in and worship Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer. It is only through His name that we may be saved. There is no other way. We teach our children to love Jesus and worship Him. We pray to the Father in Jesus' name. We testify of His love. We partake of bread and water, or the sacrament, each week in remembrance of Jesus Christ and His atonement. All that we do centers on the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We all strive to become like Him.

"Are Mormons Christians?" The answer is a resounding "yes." We are Christians. We worship the living Christ and no other. We not only believe we are Christians, but we have made sacred covenants to take upon ourselves the name of Christ and become like Him.
