Dean Hughes' "Sequel Series" Proves as Good as the FirstHughes continues to produce round, interesting characters, portrayed against a vivid background. Each of the narrators provide unique perspectives on life as it must have been for an LDS teenager during some of the most tumultuous decades in history. As the kids tell their stories, we are transported back in time by Hughes? constant attention to detail. We hear the songs of the time, see the clothing, listen to the slang, and feel the emotions of another period. For a small moment, we are apart of history. If The Writing on the Wall is any indication, LDS readers can expect another riveting series from Dean Hughes. He employs all of the techniques we loved in The Children of the Promise, but also brings us new characters with new stories and new perspectives. As always, it is a pleasure to spend time with the Thomas family.
