Despite all of this, Sister Crane’s novels may appeal to young readers, who can identify with the rocky path Kate travels. They will also benefit from the books’ message: Everyone can repent despite past mistakes. Perhaps reading about Kate’s experiences will influence them to judge others less quickly and keep themselves on the correct path. Older readers will probably find themselves irritated with the generic characters, predictable plot and stale dialogue. I recommend the “Kate” books to young adult readers who don’t mind some cheesy passages.

Cheri J. Crane’s books can be purchased from LDS bookstores around the country, or checked out from your local library. To order online, go to www.deseretbook.com .
