What is distinct about Montréal's metro is that it was the first subway system anywhere in the world to ride exclusively on nitrogen-inflated valve tires. This enables the métro to brake more easily as well as to climb hills and pull away with greater facility. Furthermore there is a marked reduction in the noise and vibration transmitted to the neighboring buildings.

Another distinct characteristic of the métro is that every station displays a different piece of art by a different artist. Walking through the different stations is like taking a tour through an art museum. For you visitors to Montréal I would suggest you take the time to stop at each and every station and look at the various works of art.
