Everybody say "WoW!"

No doubt about it - September was a “WoW” month for MMOGs!

World of Warcraft, that is. Blizzard Entertainment began the month with a bang by unveiling their new MMOG – World of Warcraft. The 9/2/01 announcement took place at the European Computer Trade Show in London, England.

This is a new playing field for the producers of Diablo and Starcraft. "World of Warcraft is our largest undertaking to date," stated Mike Morhaime, Blizzard Entertainment president and co-founder. "We are extremely focused on increasing the scope of the Warcraft universe, giving gamers an incredibly dynamic online gaming experience complete with endless possibilities."

The game, probably several years from full release at this point, should have plenty of gamers lining up to buy and play. Since its debut in 1994, Warcraft has been the number-one selling game series, with somewhere close to 5 million copies sold. The series includes Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, and Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, which is slated for release in 2002.
