1. Underdogs Rule.
St. Louis humiliates the Braves in three games. The Mets knock off the the Giants and the best record in baseball . The Mariners make quick work of the White Sox. Its the post-season, and having a better record does not ensure an advance to the next round. In the Division Series, the team with the best record lost each best-of-five. Atlanta and St. Louis had the same record, but who would have made St. Louis the series favorites? 2. Small Market Blues OK, the three lowest payroll teams in the playoffs got put out quickly. But don't think that the future looks dim for any of them. They'll be back. 3. Mr. Henderson Seattle's Rickey Henderson is a freak. The man is forty-two years old and is still driving in winning runs, stealing bases, and getting on base at a .368 OBP. He will most likely get his 3,000th hit next season, locking him into Cooperstown. And yet, did you see him in game 1 of the ALCS? After getting embarrassed on the basepath, he develops an "ankle injury." He is so good, and still eccentric. 4. Home Field Advantage The playoff have not really shown playing at home to be any real advantage. Unless you've watched the games at Shea. Of all the games I've watched, the Mets have the most electric atmosphere. The fans there are tremendous at pushing their team. 5. Sojo What? The play (or lack of) by Yankees second baseban Luis Sojo was not even close to Buckner's, but still unforgettable. With the game close and late, Sojo gets an easy ground ball, but trips over his own feet trying to throw to first base. Before you start feeling too sorry for him, look at who led the Division Series in RBI. That's right, Luis Sojo with 5 RBI.
