In spite of spring training opening up, lately its been difficult to find anything interesting in the writing about major league baseball except for the boxscores of team's half filled with minor leaguers and injury reports. You'd think that the good writing would pick up about this time of year, but instead you read pre-season predictions where the same teams that won last year get picked to repeat. (Don't go looking to see what I've picked.) But some interesting articles are beginning to surface on the internet and here they are:
1. Baseball America's 2000 Season Preview - OK, so forget about what I wrote above. This is a good read.

2. Fox Sports Baseball - Check this out. In addition to the spring previews of each team, they now have the X-Men for each team.http://www.baseballamerica.com/features/...
3. Here's the most interesting one. This article discusses unifying the umpires in the AL and the NL. What does this mean? No more arguing about the difference in the two leagues' strike zone, for one. And for another, this move brings the two leagues just one step closer to combining. For years each league has acted on its own: different strike zones, not playing each other, different rules, etc. If you think about it, the leagues have been slowly combining into one for some time now.
Arizona Diamondbacks http://ohio.com/bj/sports/docs/016216.htm Colorado Rockies http://www.insidedenver.com/rockies/0319... Los Angeles Dodgers http://www.ocregister.com/sports/dodge00... San Diego Padres http://www.uniontrib.com/sports/canepa/2... San Francisco Giants http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cactus/0... Here's how I see them ending up: 1. Diamondbacks 2. Dodgers 3. Padres 4. Giants 5. Rockies
