Planning your vacation? What are your plans for your dog? If you are like most dog owners, including me, vacation time means one of two things for your canine companion(s). They either spend the week at the local kennel, or they are taken along with you on YOUR vacation. And, while you and your family enjoy the rides and shows at Disney World, your dog waits comfortably and patiently in one of Disney's air conditioned, on-site kennels.

There is, of course, nothing wrong with either of these options; however, some dog owners have found yet another alternative, much to the delight of their canine friends. Instead of taking the dog(s) with them on THEIR vacation, they go on vacation with their dog(s).

Springing up across the country, and indeed the world, are a growing number of camps, parks, and spas designed for the enjoyment and relaxation of your DOG. They feature areas for running off-leash, facilities and instruction for agility and other training, wading and swimming areas, even doggie massage.

If you like to vacation in Michigan, check out the Dog Scouts of America's Dog Scout Camp. The six-day, five-night camps offer such activities as agility, flyball, backpacking, water rescue, obedience, herding, sledding, frisbee, search and rescue, carting, tracking, coursing, and other dog/owner sports and activities. However, the Dog Scout camps for 2001 are booked solid and those for 2002 are filling fast.

If you would prefer the placid Vermont countryside, maybe you should try Camp Gone to the Dogs. Camp Gone to the Dogs gives dog owners the chance to totally concentrate on enjoying life with their dog(s). They offer agility and obedience training with top instructors, a myriad of other activities, or simply the pleasure of taking a quiet walk or swim with your four-legged friend.
