Then decide whether or not members of these various "breeds" look anything alike.

And finally, "There has not been any serious effort at all to create a distinct breed that the AKC would recognize." As with the other two statements, this one is easily disproved. Breeders and enthusiasts of some Poodle-mix hybrids have been working for years to have their "breeds" formally recognized by the American Kennel Club, or AKC. Detailed breed standards have been developed for both the Cockapoo and Labradoodle. Further, breeding programs have been recommended and initiated, which would enhance the desired characteristics of these breeds, while also creating a wider gene pool and thus lessening the likelihood that the more prominent defects of the original breeds would be reproduced.

Are new breeds being made? In the case of the Cockapoo and Labradoodle one could clearly say, yes. Will the AKC ever recognize them as new breeds? If their popularity continues to increase the AKC would be foolish not to!
