Closely related, and something that looks fun, is flyball. Mixed breed dogs are eligible to compete, and can make up part of a team along with purebred dogs. The object seems to be for the dogs to clear a set number of hurdles, and then release a ball, retrieve it and return to start. This sets up a relay and the idea is to complete this in the least amount of time. This explanation is a very watered down version of the true sport, since I have just started researching this. For those of you who know more, or actually compete, please feel free to share information in the discussion area. This looks like a great sport and it would be a pleasure hearing some discussion concerning this and any other sport you enjoy with your dog.
The ultimate goal from all of this information is to help you have a well trained, happy dog. Like most of us, dogs do not want to spend all day doing absolutely nothing. Think about what a boring existence that would be for you-it's the same for your dog. I know Bandit loves to "work", as we call it, and seeks out every chance to do so. If your dog is bored, this also can lead to behavior problems. Part of responsible dog ownership is being certain your dog will follow at least basic commands. To accomplish this, you don't need any type of title or competition. My advice for here is that one of the best ways to train your dog for basic commands is to take at least one obedience course offered by a reputable trainer. This gives you a good, objective way to train your dog, introduce you and your dog to some social areas and let's you get out and have some fun. Please keep in mind that a well trained dog is a happier dog. Go To Page: 1 2
