Are There Clubs or Groups for Mixed Breed Dogs?

© Deborah Kompare

The answer is yes and it depends on the type of club or group you are looking to join. I will try to point you in the direction of some general clubs. I also suggest you search your local area. There are many clubs that may seem to be only for purebreds, but once you look at them, that is not the case. I have not joined any clubs at this time, mostly due to time constraints, but I have been a member of some online groups that have been a wealth of information.

First, let's look at some groups that you can join and participate in their activities. I have several listed on this site. To access them, just click on best of the web editor's choices. One of these groups is the Mixed Breed Dog Clubs of America (MBDCA) This site offers the owners of mixed breeds the opportunity to register and enjoy the titles in several different areas. It is a national registry for mixed breed dogs, providing several opportunities similar to those the American Kennel Club (AKC) offers for purebreds.

If you own a more popular mix, such as the "poo", an internet search can provide you with several sites to visit. I do have a few listed on my site, but it is almost impossible to keep up with the variety of mixes. If you have found a site that you feel is a good one, please feel free to share it with us in the discussion area. This type of information is always welcome.

Next, take some time to browse the internet to find groups that offer advice, support and information. By entering mixed breed dog information into Google, I received over 400,000 links. It amazes me the amount of information that is available. Also, under my editor's picks, there are several different sites to choose from, depending on the information you need. I belong to a web group called Pittsburgh Dogs and this is a great group. On their site, there is information about local activities, local services and lots of support from fellow dog lovers. If you are looking for something like this, maybe starting at this site would help you to find, or establish something in your local area.

Be certain to stop by my "Best of the Web" page to browse the information that is available there. If you have a particular site you really like, or know of a group that would be good for fellow dog lovers, or simply have questions or comments, feel free to post in the discussion area. If I don't have an answer right away, I am sure I can find one. Of course, our fellow readers may have just the information you need, and all you need to do is ask. I have found that dog lovers seem to be a very supportive group and really do enjoy sharing and helping each other with many different situations.

I think it's so exciting that mixed breed dogs can compete and earn titles just as registered purebred dogs. I doubt that many people know that so I appreciate this article informing them. ...
