Accuracy and story should not be a dichotomy. They should be intertwined so that the viewer cannot tell fiction from history. Understand this, I have spent the better part of twenty years writing fiction and non-fiction. I have worked in television production. I have written for and edited professional journals. Believe me when I say that I know when I get a question on the Chat Board that has absolutely nothing to do with movie/TV production. I answer them correctly and with a certain amount of patience, but I will not engage in a debate about the veracity of the answer. That is like arguing with a pig; you both get muddy but the pig enjoys it.

I was remarking about these thoughts recently with a producer who just nodded and told me about his experience with "experts." He was making a Western, you see, and had hired a group who was supposedly collectively expert on all things Western. The group gives such contradictory information that the producer dismissed the lot and shot the film the way he had intended in the first place. Score one against using experts.

Meanwhile, keep those questions coming. I just keep telling myself it's a labor of love and dedication. Love and dedication.
