What's To Drink?

© Debra Diana Blue

Everybody's always concerned with what to eat, what's for dinner. But the beverage is as important as the meal, sometimes it's the perfect complement to your meal. My favorite beverage in the world is iced tea. I drink it all year long, homemade - as the kids say, it is "the beast". That means good. Honest to goodness, I can't make enough, I can't keep enough. I think iced tea is good for the soul...at least it is good for mine.

I found some cretive tea recipes at: Say Tea Iced Tea Recipes

Cinnamon Cranberry Iced Tea

  • 1/2 cup chilled SAY TEA's Cinnamon Apple herbal tea
  • 1/2 cup cranberry juice
  • ice cubes
  • sugar (to taste)
  • 1 cinnamon stick (for garnish)

Mix the tea and juice together and pour over ice in a tall glass. Add sugar and garnish with cinnamon stick.

Another recipe I couldn't resist sharing:

    Peach Basil Iced Tea

  • 3 orange pekoe tea bags
  • 1 cup loosely packed fresh basil leaves
  • 4 cups water
  • five 5+1/2 cans peach nectar (about 3+1/3 cups), chilled
  • 1/4 cup chilled simple syrup (equal parts sugar & water, fully dissolved), or to taste
  • Garnish: peach slices and basil sprigs

Put tea bags and basil in a quart-size glass measure or heat-resistant bowl. In a saucepan bring water just to a boil and pour over tea bags. Steep tea 5 minutes and strain through a sieve into a heat-resistant pitcher. Cool tea and chill covered, until cold (about an hour). Stir in nectar and syrup. Serve tea over ice in tall glasses and garnish with peach slices and basil sprigs. Makes about 7 cups.

Some months ago, thanks to somebody at work, I stumbled upon The Stash Tea Company. These folks have teas that will blow you away. Imagine an aromatic cup of Tropical mist or Mango passionfruit tea to soothe your frazzled nerves. I swear by Stash Tea, they may have saved my sanity. Even as I type, I'm waiting on a mega shipment of their teas. I believe they call this package the "Super Sampler", it contains all they blends they have. They have green teas, black teas, even white teas. I have to admit that I had never heard of dessert teas: Almond Cream, Chocolate Hazelnut, Jamaican Butter Rum, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut. Oh I cannot wait to get my shipment from Stash. I guess you know by now... I'm a tea-a-holic. If the exotic isn't for you, visit Grits.com for a Southern iced tea recipe.
