Happy New Year!! My only new year's resolution was to not make any resolutions. But I did promise to eat healthier. Yes, I know I've said that before, but this time I mean it. I am a diabetic and I'm going to start acting like one. The rappers coined the phrase "you'd betta recognize!!" Well, I'm ready to recognize that it's imperative that I take an assertive attitude toward my diet.
Just because I come home tired is no excuse to call the pizza man . . . right? You betcha. So, in the spirit of healthier eating, I offer the following for your perusal. To myself and those that are diabetic like me: Diabetic Lifestyle Online Magazine. This is a monthly publication which is stocked until it's bursting with flavor. You can also find previous month's issues on their site. Thier "Planned-overs" section is wonderful. They give you quick recipes, then they give you recipes to make from the leftovers. I LOVE it. They have a section called "Freeze Ahead Suppers" have you ever heard of anything so wonderful? OK, I know someone is saying "Yeah, T.V. Dinners." I don't think they can compare with your own wonderful kitchen magic, not to mention the bucks you'll save. Also, keep in mind that these are diabetic recipes, so that's a plus. They also have a "Kidstuff" section. Next, I asked O great Internet for a site or two with heart-healthy recipes and here's what I found: Healthy Fridge Heart Healthy Recipes. They have a section called 10 Tips For a Heart Healthy Refrigerator which I think is invaluable for everyone who eats :). A lot of it is common sense, but some tips will make you go "hmmm, never thought about that!" Then I started thinking about meal planning. When my best friend and I combined households several years ago, we used to sit down and plan out what we were going to eat for the month, then we'd go shopping. Ah, those were simpler times. Anyway, I came up with Compucook.com. They have a great site. I liked the section called Compucook.com's Meal Planning. Instead of hot dogs and beans every Wednesday, wouldn't you like to come home and make oven-fried chicken breasts with new potatoes in about 20 minutes? They have wonderful quick recipes and fancy recipes for weekends, when we have more time for kitchen creativity!!. Go To Page: 1 2
