Deb's Smorgasbord

This week I found a bunch of goodies, so let's get to it.

We have, at our fingertips, 20,000 recipes from YumYum.Com. The recipes are indexed in 'search engine' style. Categories include appetizers, bread, pasta*, sauces, kids recipes, meats, poultry, beverages, cakes/pies, cheese/dairy, etc.

I'm excited about this site — the recipes were downloadable but there was a bug which would overwrite the recipe database so they disabled it. That could be temporary, but I'm not sure. I did a title search for chicken and selected "all." I came up with at least 400 chicken recipes. It's kinda the only thing I'm eating now since all the weird beef and fish reports have come across the airwaves. Which brings me to another great site. Check out the USDA's Food and Nutrition Information Center. They have everything from recipes to nutrition info to serious food news.

*Speaking of pasta — I was, wasn't I? — if you're a serious pasta lover, you'll love this site. Here are some of the things they say about the Pasta Passport

"Now it is possible to get the best pasta information, quickly and easily, by simply printing out the Pasta Passport's latest recipe on your printer . . . . You can now "log on" anywhere in the world and order your PASSPORT, latest recipe, digital movie, or the location of the next Pro Pasta events . . . . "

These recipes are downloadable from the Pasta Passport archive. They also have on-line product reviews and the nutritional values of some of your favorite foods.

Back to my newfound treasure, I asked YumYum.com for all the 'rice' recipes ( I love rice). I must have gotten over 200. The recipes don't all come flooding at you, though; you get hypertext links. I didn't know you could do this many things with rice :) what on earth is Chinese crab rice?

I was looking for my 1996 tax information and found a ziplock bag of recipes that I've been collecting for years. I'll share one with you called skillet chicken. They say you can make it in 20 minutes. I'll have to try it and get back to you :) but it sounds real easy . . . check it out:
