Bellydance! Magical Motion

Bellydance! Magical Motion is taught by Atéa, and is easy to find because Atéa sells it through a professional video distributor. I like this one because it provides a framework for you to put the moves you have just been taught together into a little dance. The lighting and production quality are excellent. They meet the video industry standard known as "broadcast quality".

Throughout the video, Atéa has additional dancers helping her demonstrate each move. This helps you see how different people interpret each move.

If you'd like to buy a copy, you can probably find it on Amazon.com. Or, if you purchase it directly from Atéa you can also get a cassette tape with practice music. Contact Atéa as follows:

Delilah's Bellydance Workshop, Volume 1

Delilah's Bellydance Workshop, Volume 1 is another of my favorites. It is taught by Delilah, a long-time dancer from Seattle.

Volume 1 of her three-part series covers a good selection of basic moves. The warm-up provides an excellent structure for preparing to dance - I encourage you to start every practice session with it.

In 2001, Delilah released a brand-new instructional DVD. I haven't watched it, so I don't know whether to recommend it, but due to the high standards she used on the tapes she created in the 1980's I would expect it to be good.

This Is Your Hip 101

This Is Your Hip 101 is taught by Mahisha. This video also covers a good selection of basic moves. The production quality is less polished than the others, but it is still well-lit with good sound, and it's a good value for the money. Mahisha explains each move very well, and demonstrates each from multiple angles.

Mahisha doesn't teach you how to warm up, so you'll want to begin each study session with the warm-up I recommended before you begin working with the video.

Belly Dance Fitness For Beginners: Basic Moves

Bellydance Fitness For Beginners: Basic Moves is taught by Veena and Neena. If you prefer your belly dancing video to use a fitness-oriented workout structure, you might find this one to be the best fit.
