A third choice would be the inclusion of a United Nations peacekeeping force in the security zone to ensure that Israel's borders are respected. This is a dubious choice since the United Nations apparently doesn't have the willpower to engage in new peacekeeping operations.
I believe that Israel should pull out of the security zone that was created with good intentions; protecting their northern border. It has become as much trouble to maintain as dealing with the potential hazards of occasional missile attacks. Israel could prepare some form of anti-missile system in the area to protect the settlements from missile attacks and further strengthen their border guard. Concurrently, Israel would save lives, money and prestige internationally by withdrawing from a very vulnerable position in Southern Lebanon as well as give the populations affected by the military presence a sense of normalcy they haven't had in a long, long time.
