Sitting Down at the Poker Game

A unilateral pullout would not completely solve Israel's problems in the North and although it seeks to do so in conjunction with a peace deal with Syria, there is little incentive for Syria to concede anything when Israel has already signaled its intention to pullback anyway. If you are looking to obtain a peace deal with the Syrians, you do not flash all of your cards to the other side and tell them that you are giving up your your wildcards. Perhaps the Israelis know that they hold such a strong hand that they can signal the Syrians that they can pullback and not give up anything because they will have eliminated a consistent drain on their economy (military expenditures and the human toll of sustained occupation). Then again, they are miscalculating.

Only time will tell.
