These are some of the premier newsgroups that cover Middle East politics and culture. They represent the best and worst of the Internet at the same time; the ability of anyone to say anything to everyone and you have the choice to sift through what is out there. However, newsgroups aren't always for the faint of heart. Some of people posting are racists, hate-mongerers, anti-Semitic or just plain angry and anyone and everyone. They post long diatribes that make the Unabomer's manifesto look like a pre-school primer. You can either sit back and watch someone else respond with gusto or you can post your own scathing response.
Once you get past the noise there are plenty of good conversations ongoing between groups of core posters who make subscribing to the newsgroups worthwhile for their nuggets of insight into why the Middle East is the way it is and how the politics is so closely tied to religion and economics. Newsgroups have the ability to provide some of the details into life in the Middle East and feelings of people living there that hasn't been captured by other news sources. While CNN and others appear to focus on the big picture, here you can hear from people living in the communities affected by the Israeli building on Har Homa, families of terrorist acts, and anyone else who wants to voice their opinion on the peace process or anything else they want to talk about.
