Feature Article: "Every City Has Its Own Flavor"

Afghanistan
Although technically Afghanistan is part of South Asia and not truly a part of what purists term the Middle East, what is happening in Afghanistan has effects far beyond its borders. Given the intermingling of so many nationalities on both sides of the war on terrorism, it is hard to divorce what happens in Kabul and Qandahar from Tel Aviv, Ramallah, Cairo and Riyadh.

I was fortunate enough to recently meet a young American author from California who had spent some of her formative years in Kabul. She has penned some of her thoughts about her former "hometown" that provide a different perspective than you will hear on CNN.

Karen Claussen lived in Kabul in her teens. Her essay, Every City Has Its Own Flavor" is somewhat longer than the usual article on Suite 101, but well worth the time it takes to read it.
