I'm going out to Weed! Coping with Black Tuesday, Chapter 2

Author's note to the reader: This is the second part of an article. I strongly recommend you read the first chapter of this article article before reading this. It will make more sense that way.

Well, the strawberries don't take long. Now on to the "patch". Hmmm....the "Weed Patch" would be a more appropriate name. I sure wish I'd given this area more attention earlier in the summer when it was manageable. Now I would have to tug on "tweeds" (weeds seemingly as big as trees). Hmmph? Looks like Pepsi has abandoned me to return to the house. This was the usual procedure. After humoring my need for companionship, Peps usually wandered off on her own adventures just as soon as I entered my own world. All I would have to do would be to say her name out loud and she would be back and looking up at me as if to ask "and what can I do for you now?"

"Peps? Ah there you are, girl. Can you just answer a few questions for me, while I yank away at these here tweeds. Yes girl, tell me who would be so heartless to murder thousands of people in one fell swoop? Who would sneak up on them like a snake and then flood their world with utter terror before squashing them like so many bugs? No idea, girl? OK, you can wander off again now. You too cannot fathom these wretched events."

I plow into the tweeds intending to cut a swath from the newly planted strawberries down to the corn planted 30 feet down the hill. Some I can pull while standing- particularly where they are so thick, that competition has kept each individual weed from prospering. Like miniature trees in a dense wood, they have narrow crowns and limited root spread. As long as I pull up, and not sideways they come right out. Lack of roots? Is that what is the cause of this strife? Is our world losing its ability to root deeply and firmly? Are these terrorists insecure (rootless)?

I must be honest here. At this point my thoughts focus on Islamic extremists and Arab nationalists. These seem to be the people with the motive and the financial wherewithal to do such a thing. The Palestinian situation does seem to be becoming desperate. And the US has always been the power that has stood by Israel. And the Islamic extremists, well some of them have made some pretty horrific threats against the US in the past. But I've been conditioned to expect that these types of groups would be the guilty parties. Can I trust this conditioning. My instincts still say "That's where I would place my bet". My anger grows.
