National Tree or National Treasure?

href="http://www.arborday.org/votealt.cfm">NADF official voting site. The following info from the NADF FAQs provides a guideline regarding the voting procedure:

"How will the voting take place? People can vote directly on the Arbor Day Foundation's web site, arborday.org, where they can read educational material on a list of representative American trees. People are invited to visit arborday.org, learn more about each broad tree type or genus, and cast their vote. Online voting will take place from Jan. 1, 2001 through midnight before National Arbor Day, the last Friday in April, April 27, 2001.

"Those without Internet access can submit their vote on a 3 x 5 inch card. Write the name of the tree you have chosen, include your name and address, and send it to National Tree, The National Arbor Day Foundation, Nebraska City, NE 68410, by April 1, 2001. Mail-in votes will then be added to those on the web site. "How were these 21 trees chosen as candidates? This list of 21 broad types of trees (genera) incorporates all state trees and suggests the wealth of species across the United States. You'll see a listing of each type or genus of tree and some of its common species."

Now take note of this:

"Can I vote for a tree not on the list? Yes! Below the list of 21 trees on the voting page you will see a box for entering the name of a tree which you do not see on the list."

This is where you can offer the following vote: I vote for diversity, I vote that trees be named a National Treasure Trees are emblems of the diverse geography and climate of our vast nation. They represent how our country is held toegether through the gradual transition of this diversity over time and distance. Lets name all trees as a Treasure to be valued in all regions of our vast land.
