Windows 2000 Accelerated Exam 70-240IMPORTANT: If you've read my March articles on Windows 2000 (about 4 of them), please re-read them if you get a chance. I made some errors in those articles, but have since corrected them. Sorry about that. Also, instead of writing 3 articles every 3 months, I'll write one every month like I am supposed to! IMO, Windows 2000 will be very successful with its ease of use and features that make setting up and managing a network substantially easier than its Windows NT 4.0 predecessor. Now, for those already certified in the NT 4.0 track, the path to certification in the Windows 2000 can be accelerated. If you recall, there are 4 main core exams (actually there are 5 cores, but you can choose the 5th one). The 4 main core Windows 2000 exams are: 70-210: W2K Professional 70-215: W2K Server 70-216: Implementing and Administering a W2K Network Infrastructure 70-217: Implementing and Administering a W2K Directory Services Infrastructure However, if you've already passed the NT Workstation 4.0, NT Server 4.0, and Server in the Enterprise 4.0, then you have the choice of taking only one exam to cover the 4 main core exams listed above. This exam is: Exam 70-240: Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Accelerated Exam for MCPs Certified on Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0. The exam topics covered in the 70-240 exam are cumulative of the 4 exams listed above. If you're a candidate to take the accelerated exam, here are 2 some things to keep in mind about it: -- It is scheduled for release by July, 2000. There will NOT be a beta version. --You can take this exam for free, if eligible. Call Microsoft to ask. -- IMPORTANT: You have only 1 shot at this exam. If you fail, then you CANNOT take it again. Basically, if you fail, then it's back to doing the 4 main core exams like everyone else. Keep in mind you'll also need the 5th core exam. Another thing to keep in mind when doing the Windows 2000 track is that the exams are no longer entirely multiple choice. They include several question format which make them harder to pass, depending on who you ask. The new exam format include: Case-study, Simulation, Select and Place, and Computer Adaptive. However, multiple choice questions are still included in some exams. Whenever you take an exam, you no longer know in advance the exam format you'll be getting. The number of questions and pass marks will differ depending what exam format you're given.
