Microsoft Releases Windows 2000 Exams

IMPORTANT: For those of you relying on Windows 2000 Server information and have read my previous 4 articles, PLEASE READ THEM AGAIN! I made some errors in those articles, but have since corrected them. You may want to read the articles again as a refresher.

Now for the Windows 2000 Track. Microsoft has announced several exam releases. Here they are:

June 8th: 70-216. Networking Infrastructure June 13th: 70-219. Designing Active Directory June 15th: 70-210. Professional June 22nd: 70-215. Server

Notice that exam 70-216 (Implementing a Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure) is scheduled for release first. I think that some people may be shell- shocked if they take this exam first without studying Active Directory, TCP/IP, and all the features of Windows 2000 Server. Going by the exam objectives on Microsoft's site, this exam should be cumulative of all the services of Windows 2000 Server (DHCP, DNS, Active Directory) and everything that has to do with setting up a TCP/IP based network according to Microsoft. My suggestion is not to take this exam unless you've worked with Windows 2000 Server.

Here are a few objectives for the 70-216 exam, as provided by Microsoft itself:

Install the DHCP service Create and manage DHCP scopes, superscopes, and multicast scopes Configure DHCP and DNS integration Authorize DHCP server in Active Directory.

Well, looking the objectives above, you know that you'll need hands on experience with Windows 2000 before proceeding with the exam.

Here are a few more examples:

Install and configure TCP/IP Enable IPSec Manage and monitor IPSec

Install and configure WINS Install and configure IP routing

Now looking at the objectives, I'd say that it's not your common "Networking Essentials" exam, but a cumulative exam based on TCP/IP 4.0/Windows 2000, Networking Essentials and the Internet features of Windows 2000.

Exam taker beware.
