Life In the Deep Freeze

My, it's a wonder of nature how microorganisms can adapt to living nearly everywhere. A recent CNN story reports that microbes have been found growing in ice. Six to eight feet down in Antarctic ice, scientists found a colony of microorganisms. It appears that some dust and the short summers of Antarctica are good enough for this colony to grow in.

Go see the story for yourself: CNN: Thriving bacteria colonies found in frozen polar lake. These organisms certainly take life to the extreme. For another article on extremophiles (organisms that love (-phile) living at the extemes) go to Extremophiles: Those bacteria that live in hostile environments.

I promise next week's article will be better. I'm on vacation this week so the article is a little on the wimpy side.
