Remember most food poisonings occur at home. Most of them are due to improper handling and cooking of the meat. A researcher recently videotaped 500 homes in the preparation of one meal. Most of those that prepared the meal made major errors in the handling and cooking of their meat dishes. Some wiped up the meat juices with a dish cloth that would then be used to dry their hands after washing them. Improper hand washing or no hand washing at all before and during meal preparation. Many of the meat dishes were not cooked long enough to kill the bacteria in the center of the meat. We can lower the number of food poisonings by taking more time to prepare our foods and learning how to properly prepare and cook our foodstuffs. A rare hamburger is a potentially disease causing hamburger. With this knowledge comes power. Knowing that most of our hamburger is contaminated is important for us to realise. Being forewarned is being forearmed. With this knowledge comes the responsibility to prepare and cook our foods properly. Good food preparation and cooking practices can virtually eliminate the problem. One way to ensure your kitchen is a safer place is to take the FDA's kitchen safety test.
