There is another vaccine that can be given to immunosuppressed patients to protect them from getting the chickenpox. This vaccine contains antibodies to the chickenpox virus and will prevent this viral infection for several months. It is usually given to a person that thinks they have been exposed to someone with the chickenpox or shingles. They must receive this vaccine within 96 hours of being exposed for it to protect the person. This particular vaccine does not give life-long protection.
