The data is rolling in and flu season has begun. Reports from the Centers for Disease Control in the United States indicate that since October 3, 1999, laboratory-confirmed influenza-A virus infections have been reported in 44 states and influenza-B virus infections have been reported in four states. During week 47 (November 21 through November 27), 12% of specimens tested were positive for influenza viruses.

The flu season has begun in other parts of our world as well. Look at the images below to see for yourself. If you haven't gotten your flu shot yet, it is NOT too late. Go now and get immunized. This is especially important for people over 60 years of age. Most people with diabetes, asthma, or other chronic diseases should also get their flu shot. If you are not sure consult your physician. If you work in an elderly care facility or visit your grandparents, you should get the flu shot to prevent taking this very deadly viral infection to your loved ones.

Flu cases have been pretty sporadic so far. The numbers will increase and the worst is not over yet.

Take Care and Think Microbiologically!
