Safer Foods Equal Healthier People

I told you awhile back that the Centers for Disease Control would be publishing a series of articles called Achievements in Public Health, 1900-1999. A new article has just been published online that is well worth your time. It is titled Achievements in Public Health, 1900-1999: Safer and Healthier Foods.

We forget how important safe foods are to our health. Many microbes cause food borne infections and progress in preventing these infections has been astounding. We are much safer now than our ancestors were in the early 1900's.

Anyone who prepares a snack, meal, or feast should read this article. The key to a safe meal is prevention. Unfortunately, when you are ill from an improperly handled or cooked food item it is too late to think about food safety. A wealth of information is only a click away. Remember knowledge is power and this knowledge may prevent you from getting one of those nasty food borne infections.
