There is only Spirit

I've been away for awhile dealing with some family challenges, but I'm back now. This week I want to talk about appearances.

Think about the last time you faced a serious challenge in your life. Maybe you or someone you love were facing a health challenge, serious financial difficulty, or even the break up of your family. What was your attitude regarding the situation you faced? Humans react to seeming disaster in many ways. Some become upset and worried, others adopt a take charge attitude. Those who have faced many challenges in their life, oftentimes develop a deep anger toward others who have not faced similar challenges. Another common reaction is to blame friends, family members and even God.

While these are all normal reactions to stressful situations, we need to remind ourselves that, no matter what is going on in our lives, everything happens for a reason. We may not understand what Spirit is trying to teach us with a given situation, but there is always a lesson. In her book, Lessons In Truth, Emily Cady reminds us that, "No matter how evil circumstances may appear or how much it may seem that some other personality is at the foundation of your sorrow or trouble, God, good, good alone, is real there." God (Spirit) is the one and only moving force in our lives. Nothing else exists. There is no "evil", no "devil" that tries to influence us or lead us away from our purpose. All things occur in our lives to move us toward Spiritual wholeness.

This concept of non-duality is easy in word and difficult in practice. We've all been brought up in a society where duality is accepted. Good Vs Evil; God Vs Devil; Right Vs Wrong-- there is no person in modern society who has not been taught some form of this belief. I'm asking you to look at everything as being of one presence, one power.... Spirit (God). For two weeks, deny "evil" any power in your life and your thoughts. See that everything is of Spirit (God). Mark 9:23, "Jesus said to him, 'If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.'"

My challenge for you this week is to really look at a difficult situation in your life and meditate on Spirit's lesson for you through that event. Look at it through the eyes of a loving parent who's only job is to teach you what you need to know. Give Thanks for everything that happens in your life, for all is of Spirit.
