And Forgive Us Our Debts As We Forgive Our Debtors

So, now that we understand how an unforgiving attitude effects us the question is, how do we effectively forgive. Jesus taught us in Matthew 18:35 that we should forgive from the heart, "So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses." To simply say "I forgive you" is not enough, nor is a feeling of ambiguity toward the person who has wronged us. We must learn to stand up and say "You have wronged me, but I love you as a brother/sister. We are both children of Spirit. Both perfect in Spirit. I bless you." One way to do this is to visualize the person in your mind and feel yourself wrapping them in the pure love of Spirit. Hear yourself tell them "I love you, I bless you, I honor Spirit in you." Allow yourself to feel it, knowing that on some level that person will hear and understand you. Then let go of the situation. Have faith that Spirit will bring healing upon that person.

In John 20:23 Jesus told the disciples, "If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." According to American Heritage a disciple is "One who embraces and assists in spreading the teachings of another" Those of us who strive to live our lives as Jesus lived his are his disciples. That is a huge responsibility. We can impact the life of another by withholding our forgiveness. And in turn, others can hold us to our sins by refraining from participating in our forgiveness. We can also sabotage ourselves by not granting forgiveness to ourselves. When we refuse to bless ourselves we undo any good that the forgiveness of other's can ever do. Spirit cannot help us when we do not forgive ourselves. Every being in existence sins. No one is exempt. However, when we do not forgive ourselves or others, we attract negative into our lives. When we forgive fully, bestowing our blessing and acknowledging the Spirit within each and every creature, including ourselves, we then open our hearts, minds and lives to the Will of Spirit, which is always Good in it's purest form.
