Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in this garden was a new sepulcher in which no man had yet been interred. . .

The first day of the week, Sunday by name, Mary Magdalene came early, while it was yet dark, to the new sepulcher where the body of the Lord had been placed before sundown on Friday. She immediately saw that the great stone, which the Roman guards had rolled into place, had been removed from the sepulcher opening.

She ran quickly to Simon Peter relating what she had found, and told him that the Lord had been removed from the sepulcher, and she knew not where He had been taken.

Later, as Mary stood outside of the sepulcher weeping, she stooped down, looked in and saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

"And they say unto her, woman, why weepest thou?"

Mary said unto them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him."

And when she had thus spoken, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not immediately recognize Him.

Jesus saith unto her, "Woman, why weepest thou? Whom seekest thou?"

Supposing him to be the gardener, she replied, "Sir, if thou have borne Him hence, tell me where thou has laid Him, and I will take Him away."

Jesus saith unto her, "Mary."

And Mary said unto Him, "Master. . ."
