And Then There Were Twelve

Aristotle is quoted as having once said, "Education is the best provision for old age"

Since I am keenly aware of my age, I am presently furthering my education in keeping with Aristotle's vision, for I am reasonably sure that having perspicacity in this area would greatly please the Greek mind, theoretically, of course. But education, and particularly Christian education, is more important to the greatest Master of all, and that is the Messiah, Lord Jesus Christ.

I have never been a proponent of utilizing paid correspondence courses when one has the means and wherewithall to place himself in the bowels of those hallowed halls of learning, but the wisdom of my years makes it clear to me that I am not particularly motivated to engage in campus life. Yet, as one ages, he must engage in that which stimulates the brain and makes him feel as though he is contributing to society. In other words, at seventy-two years of age, I want to continue to be a good steward of that which God has given to me.

Enter the "Institute of Jewish-Christian Studies" located in Dallas, Texas. In their study courses, they have prepared a unique blend of Jewish and Christian perspectives from which any student should benefit. Furthermore, the Institute is keenly aware that not everyone is able to pack up and go off to seminary. Well, in this program seminary is brought into one's home.

Students receiver twelve notebooks, each containing lectures on audiocassette tapes and instructions. The notebooks also contain charts and outlines to follow while listening to the lectures. There are assignments to be completed and tests to take, so that the student's progress can be monitored. Each course is designed to be completed in one month, but the Institute realizes that not everyone works at the same speed. Some go faster while other go slower, but regardless, all courses should be taken in order.

There are a total of twelve courses in this series. The first three courses are Old Testament Survey, New Testament Survey, and Jewish History, followed by:

  • History of Modern Israel
  • Comparing and Contrasting Jewish and Christian Theology
  • Messiah in the Law of Moses
  • Messianic Prophecy
  • Between the Testaments
  • Judaism Today
  • The First-Century Church
  • Church History and the Jews
  • Israel and End Time Events

There is a $15 savings each time courses are paid for in groups of three. At the conclusion of the full course, a diploma is granted.

The two major instructors are Dr. Zola Levitt and Dr. Jeffrey Seif. Zola Levitt is a Jewish believer and is best known as the host of the weekly national television program Zola Levitt Presents. He is also a widely published author with some forty books in several languages. A specialist in biblical sites, he leads several tours per year to Israel, Greece, and Turkey. He holds degrees from both Duquesne University and Indiana University and an Honorary Th.D. from Faith Bible College.
