When reading the article, I suddenly realised just how often therapists tend to want to believe so much in the people that they see that they forget just how serious the repercussions of their (the client's) behavior might be. The thing is that they have to sometimes be shown, graphically, just how bad things can get, and sometimes, actions (like a visit to the local homeless shelter, or the prison) can have ten times as much value as a nice fat lecture delivered while the client is thinking up even more clever tricks.
