The kitchen should be a warm, nourishing color rather than the traditional white, which is a very hygienic, but not relaxing color.
Shades of orange would work well in dining rooms as they stimulate the appetite and digestion (ever wondered why fast food outlets all tend to use this color?) Alternatively one might go for grays, brown or beiges, which have a calming effect or lighter, warmer yellows which are said to encourage conversation. Yellow: The nerve tonic. Yellow helps us to think clearly while stimulating our interest and curiosity. The yellow energy is said to connect us to our mental self, but it must be used carefully as it is associated with exhaustion and depression. Green: is the color of harmony and balance. It gives a feeling of renewal and calmness and promotes relaxation. While connecting us to unconditional love, green (if used in excess) can also create more negative energy if there is already some present in the person being treated. Mint green is usually used in hospital wards as it facilitates rapid post-operative healing. Blue: Besides being cool, calming and relaxing, blue is also a healing color, working for pain relief, helping with feverish conditions, stopping bleeding and helping with nervous irritations. It is ideal for sleep problems and hyperactive children. Blue is said to connect us to holistic thought, giving us wisdom and clarity while enhancing communication and speech, which is why they say light blue works well in conference rooms. Blues and greens are supposed to help with concentration, and creamy yellows are mentally stimulating, as well as adding warmth to a cold room. These are therefore good choices for the study. However, be careful of too much blue. This can leave one cold, depressed and sorrowful. Indigo: The color of intuition, insight, mysticism and understanding, the indigo energy connects us to our unconscious self, and gives us the experience of being part of the whole universe. This is supposed to be a good color for diseases of the ears, nose and eyes. It is good for sinus and is an astringent. Too much indigo can give one a headache, however, and may lead to drowsiness. Violet: This is an inspirational color, enhancing artistic talent and creativity. It is also said to give direction and reduce feelings of violence or anger. Lavender: I think it is well known that lavender is a sleep aid, but it is also a color of replenishing and rebuilding. It is like a tonic, but again, all in moderation. Too much can make you tired and disoriented.
