Agassi makes history

Agassi's achievement is especially remarkable because previous he is the first player to win all 4 grand-slams while they have been played on 3 different surfaces. The other 5 players who won a career grand-slam did so before the introduction of hard-courts at the Australian and US Open respectively. At that stage 3 of the grand-slams were being played on grass, and 1 on hard-court. Agassi was well aware of the gravity of his achievement. After winning, he said: "There are so many reasons I have to be overwhelmed at that particular moment. This is certainly the greatest feeling that I've ever had on the tennis court. It's almost like it was just sheer destiny." Agassi's next goal is to win at Wimbledon, which starts later this month. "It's been 25 years or so since somebody has won the French and Wimbledon in the same year. That would be something." Having already won at Wimbledon in 1992, and with the form he has displayed here, who could question Agassi's confidence?
