Carolingian Monastic Reform and the Plan of St. Gall: Part I, The ReformXVI (1960), 309-88. 11 - The 816 synod forbade regular bathing by healthy monks and required the abbot to live with the community. Horn discusses Hans Reinhardt's argument that, since baths and separate abbatial dwellings form a prominent feature of the Plan of St. Gall it must not be a product of the reform movement. Horn points out that the synod of 817 modified this policy (Plan of St. Gall, p.22-23). Also, there is evidence that Bishop Haito was involved in producing this plan (Horn, p.10-12) and he had already expressed reservation about these policies in his commentary on the 816 canons (Horn, p.23).
