The Morgan Beatus Part III: The Judgement Folioscondemning inscription on f.220. These folios represent an innovative approach to illuminations of the Judgment. The monumental nature of the scene with its warnings about fidelity to Christ and Christian victory had powerful meaning to tenth century Spanish Christians. The prophetic aspects were reinforced by contemporary prophecies concerning Christian victory over al-Andalus and the difficulties of the late tenth century Reconquest. This approach to judgment illumination was created in an unique cultural environment.
