St. Benedict of Nursia
Although the dominant role of monasticism gave way to the Cathedral Chapters and schools during the High Middle Ages, Benedict's Rule continues to be a source of inspiration and direction for monks even to this day. In the Twentieth Century, even laymen and women find the Rule spiritually compelling.
