Marlboro Men

Now, I could go on and on about the dangerous effects of cigarette smoking. It isn't something no one hasn't heard about already. Everyone knows the numerous diseases that can originate from this habit such as lung cancer, emphysema, birth defects, etc. I deal with patients everyday trying to help them quit. We go through the patch, the gum, the drugs. I know it isn't easy. It still amazes me the number of doctors and nurses who still smoke during their coffee break (ah, caffeine - that's another story). Anyway, enough of my rambling, here are some links to help the current smoker retire his or her pack of Marlboros. One word of advice to the smoker trying to quit: avoid those family and friends who are currently smoking. Ya don't need the peer pressure . . .

Blair's Quit Smoking Resources - For an all-purpose cold turkey site I'd start here. Lots of links put together by a former smoker.

Nicotine Anonymous - Similar to Alcoholics Anonymous, contains info for a group in your area.

alt.support.stop-smoking - USENET group for suggestions and support.
