This week I have been preparing for a fishing trip; next week I'll be on it. Thus I am taking a "break" from the coverage of the media during this so-called "war" on terrorism. Besides which it is pretty obvious that many in the press and media are allowing themselves to be bought out by government sources instead of upholding freedom of speech and freedom of the press as they allow military sources to pretty much run their news departments. In fact it's getting harder and harder to find news on anything but "Operation Enduring Freedom", anthrax, or the so-called hunt for terrorists. So, in the interests of being non-Orwellian for a week or so, I bring you these media "shorts" on other news items you may have missed since they're not being reported as they once were...

In case you miss your daily diet of info on Macedonia--there is still fighting between Macedonian forces and the KLA/NLA/whatever, and, though Dan Rather isn't saying there is, you can go to "http://www.realitymacedonia.com/" to find out. Plus get a unique look at the KLA-bin Laden connections. "http://www.antiwar.com/" keeps a "Macedonia News" archive on their site daily.

Some folks think the so-called "patriot" or militia movement died out a few years ago. But, according to the FBI, it could be that homegrown "militia" "terrorists" are the ones planting all that anthrax all over the place. I recently got an e-mail from a friend in Idaho--you know, "militia country" (!)--saying that the FBI was looking into a few holdover "right-wing extremist" groups to find out if they are behind it. It is pretty much guaranteed that "http://www.militia-watchdog.org/" will have at least interesting reading on this, as it's site owner, Mark Pitcavage, is well known for aiding law enforcement on this issue.

There has been a lot in the news lately about the continuing cancellation of the EMMY awards for television's best, that Hollywood stars are afraid that if the awards are held they are in danger of contracting anthrax. If anything, this isn't as symptom of obsession with with all this terrorism stuff in the news--it's an obsession of Hollywood folks' thinking that everytime they breathe, it must make the papers. No pun inteneded, as anthrax is a respiratory disease! The thing is, I can't think of anyone anywhere who really cares what the EMMY folks do, so why are they prattling on about it?
