Is Media Shooting Itself in the Foot?

What used to be obvious to only the right-wing/alternative media and media watchdogs/pundits is now cause for concern in the general public, seemingly, as well: that the mainstream print/TV-broadcast media is biased for liberals/Democrats/Clinton-folks and is biased against conservatives/Republicans/dissidents of the Clinton era and other politically incorrect folks. NBC was flooded the other night with complaints regarding what seemed to be an obvious bias for Al Gore and against Dubya Bush when--having failed to interrupt the legendary (and expensive to broadcast) movie, James Cameron's Titanic on Sunday night to show Bush making his so-called "acceptance" speech after Florida Secretary of State Katheryn Harris certified the Bush victory in gaining Florida's 25 Electoral votes as the three-county vote count ended at 5 pm EST--it proceeded to show Gore's "every vote counts and I won't give up the fight" speech the following night. See the Drudge Report article "NBC Ordered Affiliates Not to Carry Bush Speech in memo" at: "http://www.drudgereport.com/nbc.htm"

Since Drudge often changes his web pages, I will quote from the article:

"We blew it on Sunday night," said one senior NBC NEWS source in Washington. "We will not make that mistake again... sure, the perception is we favor Gore, we carried his speech, but not Governor Bush's speech. This was not a decision from NBC NEWS. This came from the network president..."

Many consider this bias in favor of Democrat Gore over Republican Bush as another example of liberal-media bias. But it is no longer just the politically incorrect media which feels this way, particularly since Gore, having lost three recounts already, is acting like a sore loser.

Or "SoreLoserman", according to Free Republic at "http://www.FreeRepublic.com", the Internet's top conservative/politically incorrect discussion forum. So-called "Freepers," registered members of this site, have been the ones that are protesting the Gore-legal-mess, including the fact that these folks were responsible for the "intimidation" (according to Gore running-mate Leiberman) of the Miami-Dade canvassing board to stop the recount there--naturally, not wanting to admit there really is a grass-roots movement against election shenannigans, the media has stated and stated and stated over and over again that the Republican Party was responsible for that. Again, the media is creating the news out of thin air--no Republicans were paid to do that, as anyone who saw footage of the protesters carrying "SoreLoserman" signs would already know. The protesters were "Freepers" pure and simple.

Then there are the ABC consumer complaints about ABCs coverage of the Bush speech, particularly Tom Brokaw's facial expression, which looked to some as to mean he was dissatisfied that Bush had "won" Florida. Actually, Brokaw is one of the better (least-biased) newscaster/anchor folks. But the "serious" look on his face indicated to quite a few (who e-mailed complaints to Brokaw) that Brokaw was unhappy with Gore's loss, and he meant to show that. In the Rueters/Yahoo feed called "Jennings Denies Bearing Bush Bias" at "http://dailynews.yahoo.com/htx/nm/200011...",
