Century's Top Ten: Who needs a Top 100?For publication Friday, Dec. 17, 1999 by Deborah Lagarde e-mail: "mailto:dlagarde@suite101.com" This being the end of the 20th century--well, actually it isn't, since the 20th century ends on Dec. 31, 2000, if we're still around that is, but all the pundits can't wait another year to publish their "20th Century Top 100" lists and they think they are too important to have to wait another year... Now that's a breath full! Not that humble me, who knows God is truly no repecter of any one person over another, regardless of what the self-appointed "top 100" anywhere thinks, is about to wait 'til next year if the world really is coming to an end. So, in a rather non-conformist vein, here is my Media Issues Top Ten. (Space won't allow for a Top 100) 1. Slowest but best alternative news site on the Web: And I do mean S-L-O-W-E-S-T!: World Net Daily, at "http://www.worldnetdaily.com" They are so slow, in fact, that editor Joe Farah announced today, Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, that World Net Daily had to upgrade their server for the upteenth time--due to the sites popularity, of course. 2. Best Establishment Media site on the web: Jewish World Review, at "http://www.jewishworldreview.com" By the way, I'm not Jewish. Regardless, if you can't stomach the alternative sites and need something that at least attempts to appeal to the politically correct without actually doing so, go there. And it is only a little slow. 3. Most unassuming "Hate Group" watchdog on the Net: Most "hate group" watch sites are so full of themselves you'd think they wouldn't possibly have time for their true hidden agendas--which, of course, is the agenda of doing in the political enemies of the going power elite--(but of course their hidden agendas are what they are all about!). However, Militia Watchdog, at "http://www.militiawatchdog.com" actually has a sense of humor, unlike all those paranoid-serious sites like Morris Dees' Southern Poverty Law Center (which has long since given up its 'fight southern poverty' posture), or the American Jewish Committee, or the ADL, or Hate Watch. Militia Watchdog lists several hundred "hate" sites, giving each listing a short review passage, some of which are outright comical. Need to find out about your "hateful" neighbor? Go there, and get a laugh as well. 4. Biggest 'Rebel Without a Clue': That is--with apologies to Tom Petty, who coined that term in his song, "The Great Wide Open,"--in the world of 'politically active' rock stars, the most clueless of them all--Bono, of U2. He is the poster boy for Jubilee2000, at "http://www.jubilee2000.org" who is supposedly trying to get the Pope, Clinton and others to set it up so that the world's poorest nations' debt is wiped out. What he doesn't say is that we, the taxpayers, will have to pick up the tab. But the other thing he doesn't say--perhaps he really is clueless--is that Jubilee 2000 is a social engineering program/paradigm. Change your behavior or die is their true motto. Go to the site listed above and see for yourself.
