Americans: media brainwashed, or victims of post-traumatic stress disorder? - Page 2

That other theory is that, to one degree or another, Americans are, collectively, victims of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, in this case due to September 11, 2001. And I'm not the only one who believes this (and, in case you're interested, I am a certified Texas school counselor and have a BA degree in Psychology).

So what does this have to do with media issues?

Some pundits (for instance, AntiWar.com's "Backtalk" editor Sam Koritz, and several who write for LewRockwell.com) believe that the American people--not the media--is to blame for the fact that the media spreads war propaganda, and that the media only give the people what they want to hear, which could explain why FOX News is becoming so popular: it is so warhawk, and so loudmouthed about it (as if this is the first time Americans loved loudmouths--does anyone remember Robert Downey, Sr.? Howard Stern? Imus? Bill O'Reilly didn't invent this kind of thing). But do Americans, absent a pretext, adhere to the love of fearmongering, hateful journalism at all times? The answer is NO! Check out your memory banks and think back to the Kosovo war: did (aside from the usual ribbon thing to support our troops) 70% or even 20% of Americans yell, strike, send hate e-mail, go generally ballistic when someone opposed the war on Serbia? No. Did Republicans go out of their way to bully Democrats because Clinton was such a baldfaced liar? No. Did Americans--even with the Kuwaiti "incubator" nonsense--go postal when someone dissented against Gulf War I? I don't think so.

But this time it's different, as most Americans simply do not want to hear dissenting opinions, whether on Iraq or on the coming police state. I believe the reason is tied to September 11, 2001--the day when Americans chose to undergo Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and yes, I said CHOSE.

The thing is, the media, who I assume are more informed that the people, could have allieviated the situation, but CHOSE not to, instead stoking it with reports that had no effect but to CREATE FEAR!

FEAR is the essential element of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.
